Vehicular Emission Control Campaign: 133 Inspections, 39 Fines, Red Stickers Issued, Warnings Given in 9 Days

No Tolerance for Smoke-Emitting Vehicles; Zero Concessions; Unfit Vehicles May Be Seized, Says Secretary Agha Shahnawaz

Karachi (May 14) — Warning! Be Alert! Any vehicle polluting the environment by emitting smoke will no longer be allowed on the roads. Under the directive of Agha Shahnawaz, Secretary of Environment, Climate Change, and Coastal Development Sindh, a Vehicular Emission Control Campaign launched on May 5 is strictly enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against environmental pollution in Karachi. Joint operations by the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency and Traffic Police have intensified. So far, 133 vehicles have been inspected, of which 94 passed clearance, while 39 vehicles were fined on the spot for emitting smoke. Red stickers are being affixed to fined vehicles, indicating a 15-day grace period, after which the vehicle will be impounded. Green stickers signify clearance and certify the vehicle as environmentally friendly.

Secretary Agha Shahnawaz has issued clear instructions to strictly enforce the zero-tolerance policy. No exemptions will be allowed, no recommendations accepted, and no negligence tolerated. Any vehicle failing to meet environmental standards will be off the road and confined to the workshop. This campaign is not merely about issuing fines; it is about protecting the lungs of children and the elderly. Citizens are urged to ensure their vehicles are fit because this is not only a government initiative but every citizen's responsibility. Clean air is everyone’s right, and to protect Karachi from pollution, this campaign will continue with rigorous monitoring throughout the city until May 29.

Secretary Agha Shahnawaz has sent a clear message: smoke-emitting vehicles will no longer be tolerated. Zero tolerance means zero compromise, zero concessions!
