Vehicle Emission Control Campaign: 133 Inspections, 39 Fines, Red Stickers Issued in 9 Days
Sindh’s Environment Department has stepped up its crackdown on vehicles causing pollution. Under the vehicle emission control campaign launched on May 5th by Secretary of Environment, Climate Change, and Coastal Development, Agha Shahnawaz, a zero-tolerance policy against environmental pollution is being strictly enforced in Karachi. Joint operations by the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency and Traffic Police have been intensified.
So far, 133 vehicles have been inspected; 94 were cleared, while 39 were fined on the spot for emitting smoke. Vehicles fined have been affixed with red stickers indicating a 15-day deadline to comply, after which the vehicle will be impounded. Green stickers signify clearance and that the vehicle is environmentally friendly.
Secretary Agha Shahnawaz has issued clear instructions to strictly implement the zero-tolerance policy. No exceptions, no recommendations, and no negligence will be tolerated. Any vehicle failing to meet environmental standards will not be allowed on the road but will be sent to the workshop. This campaign is not merely about fines but about protecting the health of children and the elderly.
I urge citizens to ensure their vehicles are fit and emissions-compliant, as this is not just a government campaign but every citizen’s responsibility. Clean air is everyone’s right, and to protect Karachi from pollution, this campaign will continue with strict monitoring throughout the city until May 29th.
Secretary Agha Shahnawaz has delivered a clear message: vehicles emitting smoke will no longer be tolerated. Zero tolerance means zero tolerance—no exceptions!
