A complete ban on plastic shopping bags comes into effect across Sindh from today. Secretary for Environment Agha Shah Nawaz has indicated strict action will be taken against violators. District administration, police, and SEPA (Sindh Environmental Protection Agency) teams have been mobilized, and Agha Shah Nawaz has directed field officers to conduct a strict crackdown.
“All industries, wholesalers, and retailers must immediately cease the business of plastic bags,” said Secretary Agha Shah Nawaz.
Karachi (June 15):
The grace period given by the Sindh government to industries and retailers regarding plastic shopping bags has officially ended. From today onward, a complete ban on plastic shopping bags is in force throughout the province. This ban is not just symbolic — clear orders for strict enforcement have been issued.
Agha Shah Nawaz Khan, Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Coastal Development Sindh, has firmly warned all manufacturers, suppliers, wholesalers, and retailers that the production, distribution, and use of plastic bags will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Violators will face penalties, arrests, and factory closures as part of the enforcement measures.
All district administrations, police, and SEPA teams will be in the field, and action will be taken without exception. Agha Shah Nawaz emphasized that multiple grace periods and awareness campaigns have already been conducted, and warnings have been repeatedly issued. Now, there is no room left for leniency.
“All factory owners, wholesalers, and retailers must immediately shut down their plastic bag operations or face strict action,” he stated.
